Ben Barber Law and Corrections Student Swears into the Texas State Guard

Austin Townsend is a graduate of Mansfield High School and was a student in the Ben Barber Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security program of study.  He swore into the Texas State Guard and is also attending the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Training Academy to become a corrections officer.  Training for a Correctional Officer consists of approximately 240 hours of curriculum and administrative instruction, which typically lasts about 5 ½ weeks. Training includes defensive tactics, firearms, chemical agents, CPR, first aid, physical training, non-violent crisis intervention, and standards for use of force.
